Mires and Peat is an open access journal, which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution. The authors of articles published in Mires and Peat may place copies in their own Institutional Repositories immediately after publication on the journal's website, with no embargo period.
At the beginning of 2020, Mires and Peat formalised its 'free open access' ethos by applying CC BY copyright licensing to all articles published. This means that the material we publish may be freely copied, redistributed and adapted for any legal purpose; on condition that the author(s) and journal are cited (properly attributed) and the re-use does not place any restrictions on other potential users; see https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/
In submitting a manuscript to Mires and Peat, authors are assumed to declare that the work is original, has not been made publicly available elsewhere, and will not be offered to another publisher whilst it is under consideration by Mires and Peat.
Copyright remains with the authors. If the submission is successful, the authors will automatically grant to the journal and its sponsoring Societies (International Mire Conservation Group and International Peatland Society) the right of first publication and non-exclusive but non-revokable permission to distribute the resulting article and derivatives globally in perpetuity, in accordance with the terms of CC-BY licensing.
It is the responsibility of authors to identify and appropriately acknowledge in their manuscripts any material that is not original (e.g. Figures reproduced from other publications, photographs taken by third parties, basemaps), and to obtain permission to include such material if necessary.
